Characteristics of Wire Cloth:
Basic to all straining and filtering is the ability of the filter media to retain or pass particles of a desired size from the flow path. Woven wire cloth has a number of favorable characteristics which recommend its use.
Among the advantages of wire cloth are:
1. Excellent strength to weight ratio. 2. Superior resistance to abrasion and corrosion. 3. Uniformity of aperture size. 4. Complete absence of filter media migration. 5. Ability to withstand severe mechanical shock and vibration loads. 6. Long life attributed to good flow, cleanability and ease of backwashing. 7. Availability in a wide range of specifications. 8. Resistance to temperature, pressure extremes and thermal shock. Wire cloth can be woven from virtually any metal which is ductile enough to be drawn into wire. Not all wire, particularly those in the exotic metals class, can be woven into every mesh, due to unfavorable tensile or elongation characteristics.
